No boundaries to prevent me. My canvas times infinity. No limitations to my creativity. I observe what is untold. The secret to my sanity. The artistic i hold.
"it would be like trying to describe the color blue to a man who has never seen it. you either know blue or you don't." - mr. rafferdy.
"so you mean to say one can never know something unless one has experienced it directly?" - ivoleyn. [the magicians and mrs. quent]

true. so does that contradict imagination? like art for example. when you draw, you have it in your head. you try to put feelings into it and hope that others will get the same feelings. but if they never experienced that type of emotion, will they understand it?... i guess it's different when it's art. although the mystery is all over the place, you see it, and you get your own interpretation hehe. i have no idea what i just typed. oh well hehe

people have different interpretations when it comes to art. it doesn't necessarily have to do with knowing the experience but you get to understand the experience. when you paint a person in pained expression you could understand why that person is sad given how the artist depicted it, but you don't know how it feels like to be in the same level of sadness...lol. yeah it's hard to explain lol. you see a red sky. sad, fear, and whatever emotion you associate with the color. another sees it purple. a hint of hope. how the hell can colors give you emotions? lol that's imagination...totally different thing. in my opinion anyway lol. sorry for the nonsense verbiage.
ob:
hehe no problem. love it hehe. just came up cause i recently see a bunch of billboards, stickers, posters, etc. that says, "imagination is more important than knowledge." (ooh hopefully i'm not misquoting it hehe. but ya, you kinda hit both points, imagination and knowledge. i can see what the quote is about, but does it send the wrong signal to those who don't take the time to understand the quote? i like how you mentioned, "how the hell can colors give you emotions?" why not just paint in black and white? leaves more to the "imagination." =) oh and it's probably cheaper too, but i wouldn't know hehe.

see the quote can be taken out of context...so it can have a lot of interpretations. in the book rafferdy sees humor in the irony of their situation that ivy fails to understand b/c rafferdy refused to explain. the quote that precedes the aforementioned one goes "if you cannot already see the humor, which is quite plain to me, how can i possibly explain it to you?" he cannot explain it b/c she has to be him to understand it. ivy disagrees with him bc she can know things w/o having to personally experience it through reading books. rafferdy argues that those aren't real experiences. which brings the question - do you agree that you have to experience it to know it? you see a candid picture of a boy w/ an ear to ear grin b/c he's holding a chocolate bar. you understand why he's happy but you don't know just how happy he is lol. does that mean you have to hold a chocolate bar to know it? not for me b/c i don't like chocolate lol. true, you can know things by reading. you know van gogh was crazy (for lack of better word lol) but do you know just how crazy he was? and this brings me to respond to your "imagination is better than knowledge" (something like that lol)...50/50 for me. imagination brings creativity which can facilitate in your area of work (also makes you unique), but use it to certain extent, otherwise it'll bring hallucinations lol which leads to instability in your mentality - jk. *cough*van gogh*dali*cough. their imaginations/hallucinations gave us masterpieces =)
ob:
hmm.. interesting exchange of information. but that's where knowledge comes in. if we never bother to explain to those who do not understand something we already know, why bother to explain? can one really know something without experiencing it? i think you can understand something without the experience. but not at the same level. At times people tell me, "you wouldn't understand because you've never felt it (or it never happened to you.)" Sometimes, it's upsetting. Because, why do people feel that way and expect you (the listener) to understand? They have already made up their mind that you aren't going to understand. It's as if it won't even matter anymore what the listener thinks because the conclusion is present before anything else.

try explaining menstrual cramps to a guy...lol. but i understand what you mean when some makes an assumption about you for the lack of experience. in their defense, it's their way of not talking about it or not wanting to hear you counter what they have already set up in their mind.
